New Mexico offers travelers some of the best hiking adventures in the southwest United States. Located in the southernmost tip of the Rockies, New Mexico has pristine and often underutilized alpine hiking trails. Check out a few of our favorite day hikes in Santa Fe that take you up into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains where you can hike from 9,000 to 12,000 feet. Alamos Vista and Aspen Vista are two trails that start at 10,000 feet and are ideal hikes in the hot summer months, and the cool and colorful fall season.
If you are interested in viewing stunning rock formations, we highly recommend the hikes in the Abiquiu area, including Plaza Blanca. Other spectacular treks that we love are at Ghost Ranch and Kasha Katuwe Tent Rocks.
Santa Fe Mountain Adventures also has permits to visit unique destinations like La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs where you can view thousands of prehistoric rock carvings left by the Native American people who inhabited the area. For a more challenging exploration of rock art, join us on a hike to the Rio Grande and photograph an array of petroglyphs.
